Things that are making me feel like an adult
January 7th, 2012If you read my blog, you know I struggle to feel like a human being most of the time, let alone an adult. And despite the fact that I still don’t clean my room until it starts to smell like butt, there are a few things in my life that make me feel mature and accomplished.
For example, I started paying back my student loans this month. Okay technically I should have started doing that last month, but I put it off out of pure terror. And although I don’t pay rent, the enormity of my student loan payments is enough to make me start cutting back on things that I’ll admit are a little unnecessary and extravagant. Let’s just say I’m not so willing to fork over the extra dollar for guacamole on my burrito at Chipotle anymore and I can no longer single-footedly support the Steve Madden brand.
Additionally, for the first time, I received a jury duty notice. Okay, technically, I didn’t receive it. It was sent to my mom’s house in Pennsylvania. Since I’m no longer a Pennsylvania resident, I of course am not required to serve Pennsylvania jury duty. Oddly enough, silly political science degree holder that I am, I was mildly disappointed that I don’t get to be a juror. I think I’d be really good at it…
And finally, I wore a tie to work yesterday. Nothing makes you feel more grown up than wearing a tie.
Hey before we know it, maybe I’ll be making my bed and no longer referring to my gynecologist as a “foo foo doctor.”

How’s the transition to adulthood anyways?
